Great Grammar in Roleplay! « Thread Started on May 22, 2008, 9:07pm »
No matter what Clan you're in, it would really help you, your Clanmates, and your ELA teacher if you use proper grammar. Here is my guide to proper grammar!!
Can you guess which one is wrong and which ones are right?
"Okay, Frostwish," Snowpaw purred, "I'll get those herbs for you."
"Okay, Frostwish!" Snowpaw purred, "I'll get those herbs for you."
"Okay, Frostwish." Snowpaw purred, "I'll get those herbs for you."
Did you guess which one is the wrong one? It was the last one. If you're going to continue the lines your character are speaking, always put a comma where there should be a period. But if you have a question,
"But why, Frostwish?" Snowpaw asked, "We have a lot of burdock root."
...or a excamation,
"Look at all this catmint!" Snowpaw exclaimed, "That's more than we're ever going to need!"
...then you don't replace the question mark or the excimation with a comma. Just continue with the sentence.
If you are ending a sentence with quotations, end with a period, an exclimation, or a question mark.
"Fox dung!" Snowpaw spat, "I missed it."
"Hey Frostwish," Snowpaw asked, "Which one is the catmint?"
"Wait a second," Snowpaw mewed, "That's so cool!"
Now, you always capitalize the first word in every sentence. I think you all know that, but there are some proper things we need to take care off.
Correct: Snowpaw StarClan I Goldenheart
Incorrect: SnowPaw Starclan i goldenheart
So, capitalization is only used at the beginning of every sentence and with proper nouns, like your character's name and the names of the Clans. Also, always capitalize the word "I" and "Clan" in a Clan's name. "StarClan."
Quite simple, really. If you want to add color to your post, just use the following HTML code:
Snowpaw
For a rainbow, you can use multiple tags to make it very colorful:
rainbow
Take out the / next to purple, and you have a rainbow!! If you have something to add to my list, just post it here or PM me!
